A message from Kelly Padrao West, Former Director, Midwife, Nutritionist & Donor Human Milk Advocate
My work as a Director of the Mothers Milk Bank Charity has also come to an end. For the last 10 years I have worked/volunteered along side Marea Ryan providing pasteurized donor human milk for babies in need.
The MMBC was the answered I needed when looking for a place to donate my own excess breastmilk 11 years ago. I not only became a donor mother, a member and soon one of the directors of the charity.
Due to a number of reasons if breastmilk is not available, donor human milk should be an option for all newborn babies. If every woman donated one bottle a day while feeding their babies we would never have a shortage of breastmilk.
We need awareness, we need change, we need a new paradigm so equity of donor human milk can be a reality. My journey is done however the MMBC continues and the new directors will make access to donor human milk even more possible.
My deepest and sincere thanks to Marea Ryan, her vision and perseverance is inspiring.
To all volunteers, donors, supporters of MMBC a big thank you for keeping us going for all these years. We could not have done it without every single one of you!
To the MMBC board, I will always be an advocate and a fighter for equity of donor human milk, thank you for your hard work!
May 2021 be a year of health and donor milk abundance!
