The Australian Breast Milk Bank (ABMB).
Is an ambitious, innovative and realistic project that will change the way mothers can access extra breast milk for their babies.
ABMB offers the world’s first available extended life breast milk combining microbial safety with immunological protection similar to milk straight from the breast using non-heat pasturisation.
Only around 5% of babies arrive on their due date. That means milk supply may be slow to come in.
In fact, up to 100,000 new Australian mothers and parents a year need donor human milk to bridge the gap.
Currently, hospitals and the state health systems restrict access to donor milk to only around 4,000 babies out of the 100,000 who meet the eligibility criteria being born less than 32 weeks gestational age or of a very low birth weight (ie. under 1500 grams).
So, 96,000 miss out!
Together, we can make safe ‘community milk sharing’ happen for every baby.
